5 things your customer won’t tell you

As a business owner, there are times you wonder why you get a lot of one-time customers. Even though you are certain you offered them what they came for, they still choose to take their ‘business’ elsewhere. Truth is, except you’re besties with the customer and he/she is willing to give helpful criticisms; some scenarios can make your potential customers walk away.

Check out these things customers won’t tell you when they patronize your business;

1. No one said hello:

Some customers take simple courtesy seriously. They don’t expect to walk into a store without a staff welcoming them. It’s even worse when the customer isn’t offered any help. A simple “Hi” or “Good morning, how are you doing today?” goes a long way in acquiring new customers for your business. Also, note that a smiley face compliments the greeting. So, never keep that smile off your face!

  1. The staff stared at them like they didn’t want them in the place

A friendly facial expression is important in business communication. Always give a smile to your customers when they walk in, maintain a highly professional eye contact and be sure to add some enthusiasm, too. Really, as the day runs out, you might become weary and the smile begins to fade. As much as this is understandable, you need to always remember that your customers’ needs are priorities and it’s your job to make sure they leave with the intention of patronizing you again. Keep the look professional, smile and don’t stare!

3. When they placed a call to the store, the person sounded angry

Regardless of how the customer spoke on phone, never speak rudely to them. You never know how their day is playing out, so your words on how cool that outfit would look on them might just be what they need to brighten up their day.

  1. When they walked in, employees kept chatting and laughing, completely ignoring them until they asked a question

Your business isn’t a place for catching up on the latest neighbourhood gist and so, customers shouldn’t feel unattended to when they come into your business place. Leave that gist for later, as the most important gist is with the customer and how much value your business can provide.

  1. They could tell the boss was not around

Remember the saying, “When the boss is away, mice will play.”? As a business owner, endeavour to build a business structure that doesn’t leave a noticeable vacuum when you’re not around. This way, in your absence, your employees will manage the business well and the customers will have a good experience as always.
