Mindful Spending Tips for the Holidays

As the country transforms into a canvas of celebrations and excitement this December, it’s important to remember that January comes with long, lonesome days. Building a safety net is your best bet to start January on the right foot.

With the prices of everything going through the roof, you want your pocket to match the rhythm of the economy so as not to start the New Year being broke. That being said, here are some mindful spending tips to practise during the holidays.

Stash an amount aside for January. No matter how much fun you intend to have in December, you HAVE to stash a sizeable amount away for January.

Take advantage of sales and discounts. Everywhere you look in December, sales are happening. Buy at discounted rates to save money.

Do your best to avoid impulse buys. It’s Christmas and everywhere is triggered to make you spend more. From the music to the lighting, shopping on a whim will leave your account with a gaping hole. Your self-discipline in December is hinged on your survival in January.

It’s okay to say NO. There’s a barrage of events, deals, outings and many more that are tussling for your attention and pocket. It’s okay to say NO to anything that will want to get you to overspend.

Shopping carelessly during the holidays will take a large bite out of your finances if not handled with caution. What other mindful spending tips would you be practising during the holidays? Do sound off in the comments.
