“Essence” is, without a doubt, the hottest song on our radar right now. The song, which appears on Wizkid’s highly acclaimed album “Made In Lagos”, has proven to be an international hit, as it has climbed the Billboard Hot 100 chart in the past few weeks ( it currently sits at number 54!). It’s also number one on the World Digital Sales chart, making it the first Nigerian song to appear on both charts. It was also included the song in Barack Obama’s list of favourite songs of 2020.
The organic rise of the song has been exciting to watch, as it further pushes afrobeats’ global takeover, and is certainly a career milestone for both Wizkid and Tems.
Now, it’s bound to climb the charts even further, as Wizkid has enlisted global superstar, Justin Bieber for the remix of the smash hit. Justin—who called the song “the song of the summer”—has definitely proven to be a great addition to the track, sliding in with his smooth verse and blending with the sultry Afrobeats R&B vibe. It’s the collab we never knew we needed.
We can’t wait to see the song become even bigger and snatch up some awards in the next weeks and months.
