Where Did You Stop? 7 Ways To Pick Up Where You Left Off In Your Studies

Coronavirus kept us on lockdown and caused schools to shut their doors and then, there was ASUU strike which went on for months. It is only understandable if you cannot remember where you stopped in your studies.

To get back on track, and not be found scurrying about wondering how you will be prepared on time for the next exams, there are ways you can pick up where you left off and catch up with your studies.

1. Skim through old notes

What did you learn before the break? You don’t remember what the subject of discussion was all about? That’s okay. Skim through the note. Skimming through will help you remember bits here and there. You don’t have to cram or memorise when glancing through.

2. Do not panic

Anxiety will only help in increasing your blood pressure and you will end up not digesting much of what you read. Take a deep breath and analyse the situation you are in, then set a time frame.

3. Set a time frame

How much time do you have to read your notes and be ready for your exams? Calculate that and draw up a structure detailing how much reading you have to do daily to catch up. Then use your timetable and stop playing catch-up with all the friends you haven’t seen since the strike and pandemic.

5. Drop that phone

Even a 2-year-old knows how to get hooked on a phone these days. All you have to do is play an animated YouTube video. Our phones are loaded with distractions, from tweets to Whatsapp messages and other social media platforms. It’s one thing to say I’m ready to study, it’s another when one slay queen suddenly post the picture of her new Porsche. Drop the phone.

6. Join a study group

They help you check yourself, evaluate your progress and challenge you to do better. You will most likely cover up much reading when you join a goal-driven group.

7. Read

You won’t pick up where you left off magically. You have to open the book and read it. Pick a place where you won’t be distracted. The library, with your study group, all-night class or your room (as long as you don’t sleep off after 10 minutes), these are examples of places you can read quietly. While you read, you will be able to recollect and assimilate some contents because you have previously skimmed through the note.
