8 Healthy Habits To Adopt This Year

Resolutions should not only be about finances and achievements. Your health should be a top priority too. A healthy habit is any action or behaviour that can improve your well-being physically, mentally or emotionally. While you are making plans for a better year, adopt some healthy habits to go with it.

Here are a few;

1. Take care of yourself

Is it time for breakfast? Go and eat. Are your eyes hurting and can barely stay open? Go and sleep. Taking care of yourself cannot be overemphasized. The human body is sometimes likened to an engine, that works fine when it’s being serviced. But when you do not maintain, it breaks down.

2. Practice good hygiene

It is as simple as bathing and brushing your teeth twice a day. That can’t be hard unless you’re living in Jos. And even they don’t smell. Put on clean clothes and avoid sleeping in an overcrowded room.

3. Have self-control

Know when to stop. That you have to eat, doesn’t mean you eat so much you have to loosen your belt. Avoid eating as a means of getting over stress. Know your hunger cues and stay away from fizzy drinks and unhealthy snacks.

4. Stay Fit

The fact that you trekked from Maryland to Ikeja during steady traffic, under the sun, is not the same as exercising. Let’s not forget that you are tired and stressed from a long day’s work. Purposefully walk or jog early in the morning or evening. You can see a fitness instructor so that you don’t over-do it. You can also do house chores, take the stairs and walk more often.

5. Visit the hospital for a check-up

We all wish that we stay in good health. Which is why many try to stay away from the hospital for as long as their body would let them. Preventive health care screening, on the other hand, would require you to go for an annual physical examination and most often than not catch the disease/virus that would later arise to threaten your finances and life. Do not wait to be at the point of death before you visit your doctor.

6. Manage your time

Disorganization can bring about stress and make you believe you are always busy and have time for nothing else. But one thing we fail to realize is that, in that busy schedule of ours, there are occasional distractions, what with the digital era we are in, coupled with all its distractions. Which invariably leads to poor time management. Sought your distractions, eliminate them and set a time-table. Check out some management tips.

7. Be quick to forgive

This isn’t about your religion. When you can actively let something go, even without apology, it decreases your anger, stress, and pressure. Don’t go to sleep angry and focus on understanding yourself instead of blaming others.

8. Try something new

Doing and following the same routine every day can be mundane and exasperating. Get excited about life by trying something new. Trying new things can lead to increased motivation and a higher level of self-esteem, while also minimizing frustration and loneliness. Have your vacation in a different state or country. Try a new look, learn a new language, join a book club or any other society, pick a hobby, whatever works for you.
