Songs That Describe How We Feel About Money

Believe it or not, there’s a song for almost every situation. That’s the power of music, right?

That said, we’ve curated a list of our favourite songs that describe our relationship with money and all the situations that come with it.

Have a look!

‘Billionaire’- Travie McCoy feat. Bruno Mars

‘I wanna be a billionaire so freakin’ bad, buy all of the things I never had’. If that isn’t one of the most relatable lyrics ever, we don’t know what is! In this 2010 hit, Travie McCoy and Bruno Mars talk about their dreams of becoming so rich; they can afford and do anything they want. From being friends with royalty, playing basketball with the President, to becoming a philanthropist and sleeping happily, this song is an excellent representation of how most of us feel.

‘Rich Girl’- Gwen Stefani feat. Eve

This song describes how you feel when you’re looking at those expensive Louboutin heels or Fenty makeup palettes, wishing your bank account wasn’t currently begging for mercy. Gwen Stefani and Eve made a very relatable bop about wishing you had so much money that your wildest dreams would come true.

‘Bills, Bills, Bills’- Destiny’s Child

Destiny’s Child probably hates this song about depending on a man for cash, but hey, the song slaps. Plus, it’s a super useful song for when someone new comes into your life, and you need to let them know that you’re not down for brokeness. You’ve got bills to pay, and if they can’t help you with that, they had better use the door! (just kidding ?)

‘Money’- Adekunle Gold

Adekunle Gold has a penchant for singing songs about relatable life experiences and his 2017 hit ‘Money’ is one of them. In this song, he sings (very passionately, might we add) for God to bless him and even plant money in his backyard, so he can live a good life and stunt on his haters. After all, money stops nonsense.

‘Cash’- Lady Donli

If someone asks you why you’re always grinding and working hard, play him/her this jam. In this sweet jam, reminiscent of 90’s Igbo highlife music, Lady Donli confesses ‘I’m addicted to cash’ over and over. It’s the perfect anthem to get you dancing and remind you that there’s money to be made.

‘Suffer Suffer’- Lady Donli

Lady Donli has proven herself to be the Minister of Enjoyment Affairs with her jams about living the good life. In this jam, she declares that suffering is not her portion because that’s not what she came here for. We’d advise that you make this your alarm tone, so whenever you feel like sleeping instead of waking up to work for your money, you can remind yourself that you didn’t come to this world to suffer. Get up!

‘I’m So Paid’- Akon

This is the kind of song you jam in your car after receiving that credit alert at the end of the month. The best way to sing it? Pull the windows down, turn the music up and sing at the top of your lungs.

‘Able God’-Chinko Ekun feat. Lil Kesh & Zlatan Ibile

This list would be incomplete without this anthem. The reason this song resonated with all of us is that we’ve all been in this situation. ‘Able God, shower your blessings, we want this money …no more insufficient funds’. We can all relate!
