Diabetes is a disease that affects millions of people everywhere. Before you’re diagonised of the disease, there is a period where blood sugar levels are high but not high enough to be diagnosed as diabetes. This is known as prediabetes.
You don’t have to be diabetic! Have a look below on how to avoid this disease at a young age:
1. Reduce your sugar intake: Eating sugary foods and refined carbs can put at-risk individuals on the fast track to developing diabetes.
2. Regular workouts: Exercise increases the insulin sensitivity of your body. So, when you exercise, less insulin is required to keep your blood sugar levels under control. You’re advised to choose regular activities that you enjoy so that you can stick with them for the long term.
3. Make water your friend: Water is very important in your system and you can’t have too much of it. Rather than take more of sodas and sugar contained drinks, why not stick to taking water? Water is by far the most beneficial and natural beverage you can drink!
4. Try losing weight: Not everybody develops diabetes from fat, although losing even a small amount of weight can help reduce this risk. Studies show that the more you lose weight, the less prone to diabetes you are.
5. Diet on high fibres: Fiber has also been linked to reductions in blood sugar levels and a decreased risk of diabetes. Getting plenty of fibre is beneficial for gut health and weight management. Consume more fibres!
