In a fast-paced world such as ours, it can be really tiring having to cook. What if you can still prepare healthy meals without cooking? Without turning on the gas or baking for that matter?
While our rice, egusi soup yam and other delicacies are all wonderful and required for healthy meals, there are days you just want to hurry to class or work and do not have time to cook or you are too tired to.
Instead of settling for junk foods on the roadside or starving yourself, learn simple yet healthy meal preparations that do not require cooking.
1. Salads
Let us begin with the popular ones. We don’t cook our salads. All you have to do is cut your cabbage, grate your carrots, add peas and canned beans if you like, cucumber and corn-beef if you want to spice it up. Next, you add your mayonnaise or salad cream and stir properly. Food is ready!
2. Cereal
It is not just for children. Corn flakes, granola and other good cereals are rich in fibre, whole grains and nuts. All you need is your milk and sugar(If you like) and the food is ready.
3. Oatmeal
This is another healthy meal and good for when you are rushing out to class or work in the morning. Always have your oat ready for when you are not cooking an entire meal.
4. Avocado
Are you thinking ‘Just pear for a meal?’ Well, don’t eat just that the whole day. Mash your avocado, squeeze a lemon into it, add a pinch of salt and your meal, rich in fibre to keep you full and healthy, is ready.
5. Shawarma bread
How about you make your shawarma wraps by yourself? Excluding the chicken or beef of course, unless you are ready to cook. All you need are your vegetables and shawarma bread. Wrap up your vegetables (add varieties to spice it up) in the flatbread and your meal will be fantastic.

6. Soaked Garri
It is no longer a meal associated with the poor man, not if you do it well. Add milk, groundnut, coconut, fish, you can even crunch biscuits into it. Pour in your water and dig in. When was the last time you drank garri?
7. Sandwich
It is one of the most common meals that don’t require cooking. All you need is your bread and butter to slather on it, then you add your varieties like tomatoes, avocado, sardines, corn-beefs and anything else you like.
8. Vegan Coconut Curry Soup
Oh yes, there are soups you can make that do not require a fire. What you need for this one is coconut milk, curry leaf and fresh pepper for flavour and look.
9. Fruit salad
There are too many options here. You can choose to cut up your fruits (as many as you want) or you can grate and make a smoothie or fruit juice out of it.
10. Chocolate Mousse
It is a blend of avocado, dates, cocoa, and almond milk. It is creamy and yummy and has tons of antioxidants and fibre good for the body.
