COVID-19: Here Are The Changes So Far

Since WHO declared COVID-19 a global pandemic on March 11, 2020, the world and its people have experienced lots of changes. Nigeria, as a country, has not been left out from these changes, whether good or bad.

Right here is a little update of how the coronavirus and its following lockdown has affected the Nigerian people;

1. Remote Jobs

changes

This can be called good news, because companies now realized that they could allow their staff to do their work effectively from home, except for some companies like factories, eateries and the like. This has saved the cost of the fare and time spent in traffic.

2. Hike in bus fare

economy

In a bid to maintain the 1.5-metre distance from one another, the commercial buses are only allowed to load up a 60% capacity of passengers in their vehicles. To make the same amount they made when their buses were full, they increased the fare.

3. New/no handshake

Handshakes were usually a way to greet or bond with one another, but since we aren’t touching one another presently due to Covid-19, many have devised a new method of greeting. They either slap their elbows together, their feet or don’t bother touching at all.

4. Pay cuts

economy

Many businesses have received a significant blow on the financial states of their company; hence, they have had to layoff or reduce salaries pending when the economy and changes can be stabilized.

5. Temporary lockdown of fun centres

6. Family bond

During the period when the lockdown was the tightest, folks had no choice but to remain in indoor ‘Hashtag StayHome’, it gave them time to bond with family and friends, calling on people you haven’t spoken to in a very long time. MTN- 5199 4580 4984 30280

7. Overdue rest

global

Aha! Didn’t you enjoy that long vacation? Little wonder some companies are holding off on acknowledging their staff’s leave for the year 2020. Hopefully, you joined others in having a good rest and easing off all that stress you’ve been building over time.

8. Business loss

Economy

Sadly, some startups struggled to stay afloat this period. With their staff sent home, pending when they can open shop again, these small-scale businesses have had to put a pause in business and cash flow.

9. Online worship centres

global

Since worship centres couldn’t hold more than twenty people in the building, they went online, streaming live on Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, Zoom and the like. Now, you can wake up in the morning and not have to rush to get to church. It’s just a few clicks away.

10. An influx of online Businesses

Economy

For businesses not to crash and be able to adjust to selling online, though present for a long time now, has become the real deal, so that, even a fashion designer can sell 30 clothes online in one day and have dispatch riders ship it all to the buyers. Cool, right?
