‘Hidden Figures’ brings to light, the inspiring story of three female African-American mathematicians ( Katherine Johnson, Mary Jackson and Dorothy Vaughan), whose contributions at NASA helped launch John Glenn into orbit. The powerful film tackles gender equality and race, with brilliant performances by Taraji P. Henson, Octavia Spencer, Janelle Monae, amongst others.

Little Women (2019)

Louisa May Alcott’s highly acclaimed novel ‘Little Women’ has received both small and big screen adaptations over the years, the most recent being the Greta Gerwig- directed 2019 adaptation. The classic follows four sisters- Meg, joe, Beth and Amy (who couldn’t be any different from each other), as they come of age and deal with all the issues life throws. It’s an important and intriguing film everyone should watch.

On The Basis of Sex (2018)

Lionheart (2019)

You’ve probably seen this but there’s no crime in giving it a rewatch, is there? This film follows Adaeze Obiagu (played by Genevieve Nnaji), a young and ambitious woman who rises up to the challenge of managing her father’s transport company when his health suffers. In order to help the company stay afloat, she has to team up with her eccentric uncle, while trying to avoid getting sidelined. It’s a story of determination and perseverance.

Big Eyes (2014)

‘Big Eyes’ is a film that touches on an issue some women might be, unfortunately, quite familiar with- being overshadowed and relegated to the background. It’s the story of Margaret Keane, an American artist who has to deal with the reality of her husband achieving success and acclaim by presenting her works as his own. In the movie, we follow her journey to reclaiming her works and deserved recognition.

Salt (2010)

Fun fact: The movie was originally written to have a male protagonist (to be played by Tom Cruise) but was eventually rewritten. We got to see Angelina Jolie play a Russian spy, show some awesome girl power and kick some butt. How iconic.
