Fun, simple and educative activities to do in your spare time

As we grow older, we realise that the spare time we have for ourselves becomes less as school and work take up most of them. This is why it is important to make use of our spare time wisely, on days where we don’t have pressing issues to attend to. These simple and fun activities can do more than making us relaxed/entertained, they nourish our brains as well.

Watching movies/shows: Most people watch movies for entertainment and relaxation but if you think about it now, you will realise that you’ve learnt a lot of things from the movies you watch. Cartoons, documentaries and biopic movies are also great sources of information, movies also shed light on situations in our environment. Movies such as 12 years a slave takes us down the slave history lane, while series such as Suits teaches us about law, House MD & Grey’s Anatomy teaches us about Medicine and health etc.

Reading: Reading has so many benefits and is, of course, the best form of educating and information, asides that reading is also one of the best ways to relax and has been proven to reduce stress levels drastically.  We learn so much from books while getting entertained as well. There’s so much to read now, you can pick up a physical book or an e-book, there are also sites and apps that help with reading.

Listening to Music : Yes, music is a great source of information and it one of the best mediums to transfer knowledge, cultures and values from generations to generations. Lying down and listening to music is so relaxing and allows us to fully understand the true messages of some songs. You can also listen to poetry/book recordings.
