Prior to the interview, you can have a dry run with a friend or family member by setting up the video interview and doing a mock interview. Your friend/ family member can give you some feedback on the lighting, sound and camera quality and more, so you can make adjustments and prepare better for the actual interview.
Remove Distractions
To avoid getting distracted and distracting your interviewers, you should eliminate interruptions and intrusions. Shut out background noises, close the door to ensure no one (e.g your loud younger sibling) comes in, put your phone on silent and ensure you are completely alone during the interview.
Take Note of Your Body Language
Maintain eye contact with your interviewer(s) during the interview, so you don’t appear distractions. You should also sit up and ensure you maintain a good posture. This gives your interviewer(s) the sense that you’re serious and fully focused. Also, don’t forget to smile.
Have A Back-up Plan
You should have back-ups in case things go south. If possible, you can have a back-up laptop or internet in case the one you’re using malfunctions. Also, if there is a noise interruption or somebody barges in, ensure you apologize to the interview panel politely.
