A Few Memories Of The Holiday Season

If you were to rate your holiday season, what would you give yourself? Excellent, useful or just plain horrible? With Christmas and New Year celebrations gone, all we have left are the memories and perhaps, plans for the new year.

1. The long wait for Christmas clothes

As a child, by August, you are probably already waiting for your Christmas clothes, knowing fully well mummy will probably buy it in October, so she doesn’t have to buy the expensive ones in December. It’s safe to say our mothers were unofficial financial analysts.

2. Sitting alone, wondering if it was the festive season

This can be very sad. No Christmas lights, music or ‘Happy New Year’ screams. To top it all, you had to eat beans on Christmas day! You couldn’t help but ask if it was indeed Christmas day.

3. When you had to cross a street with boys determined to shoot bangers (knockouts)

Haha! That sweet New Year’s eve. Imagine crossing a street where children were determined to show off their knockout or banga skill. You had no choice but to run or be used as target practice.

4. The day you discovered your dad was Father Christmas all along

So, you were preparing for this unearthly creature called Santa Claus, otherwise known as Father Christmas, to bring your gifts while you sit on his lap and tell him how you feel. Only for you to catch your dad wearing the costume in the bathroom. Lol!

Imagine you had invited friends over for your New Year jollof rice and chicken, only to realise that the only thing you would be serving them was burnt offering. Awkwaaaaaaaaard!

6. When you were determined to eat everything you found and your village people decided to visit

Nna, the way you headed for the toilet, people thought demons were after you. When you found another meal, you fled.

7. When your mom bought a suit as your Christmas/New Year cloth

After the long wait for Christmas/New Year clothes to arrive, it turned out to be a suit. You know, complete with a jacket and coat and your mum was beaming at you like ‘don’t you just love me right now?’ Meanwhile, you were expecting a Jean with a spaghetti top. Simply dream-shattering.

8. When your friends mistook Christmas for Haloween

You were supposed to be celebrating, yet your friends took it upon themselves to be Prank Lords and make your life miserable.
