The Less Privileged
By Calista Charles
Would you hurt me, if you love me?
Would you lie to me, if you love me?
Would you molest me, if you love me?
Would you abuse me, if you love me?
If I was your favourite child, would you abandon me?
If I was your best friend, would you kidnap me?
If I was the love of your life, would you rape me?
If I was the future, would you deceive me with peanuts?
Why do you use me as a tool, if I was important?
Why don’t I enjoy the luxury your kids enjoy, if we were equal?
Why do I have to beg for food, if you really cared?
Why don’t you help me?
If I had a right then, why do you sell me to foreigners?
If I had a mother then, why did she take pills to get rid of me?
If I had a life that counted then, why am I slaughtered like an animal each day?
Would I get answers to the numerous questions that bother me?
Why am I always the one at the receiving end?
