Let’s meet you (Your name, what you do and where you are from)

My name is Bamidele Habeebat Yetunde. I am a farmer, an agricultural consultant and an agropreneur. I am from Ilorin, Kwara state.

How long have you been doing this?

Less than 2 years.

What inspired you to go into business?

In October 2019, I had the opportunity to attend a 3-day seminar titled ‘Agripreneurship Training & Development For New Generation Farmers’ at the Agricultural & Rural Management Training Institute (ARMTI). At the end of the programme, we were given a stipend, so I thought of what I could do with the stipend. This led me to start my first garden behind my hostel and lay the foundation for where my business is today.

Also, the rate at which food prices increase, the rate at which people die due to consumption of unhealthy foods is very devastating. As someone who has a passion for agriculture and business and also studied agriculture at the university, I thought of a way I could contribute to ending poverty, hunger and malnutrition in the country and the world as a whole

What are the challenges you face as a young entrepreneur?

The process was not as easy as I thought it would be. Raising capital, gaining customer trust as a startup and a young female agropreneur was challenging. Having to do most of the fieldwork, procurement, delivery, and other business services could be demanding at times.

What was your highest and lowest point since you started this journey?

My highest point was April 2020, during the pandemic when I generated revenue exceeding my expectations. I was also able to train over 300 youths on vegetable production virtually during the pandemic.
My lowest point was August 2020 when I invested in an agribusiness that failed due to climate change.

What do you aim to achieve in the next 12 months in relation to your business?

To gain more credibility and visibility, build good connections or networks that will help my business grow, find more offline markets for what we intend to produce, research and develop ideas that will increase my business visibility and also learn some technical skills that will help the business run smoothly.

What are your short- and long-term goals?

Short-term goals are to:
-Purchase land where we can produce and process more healthy vegetables and foods for every individual
-Empower & train youth and women
-Employ people to reduce the rate of unemployment in the country
-And have a physical store where we can render our services physically, sell vegetable seeds & farm produce.

Long term goals are to:

-Be the leading producer of healthy vegetables and foods
-Process foods for both local and international markets and own a livestock Farm

Which individuals do you get inspiration from and why?

Every woman doing great amazing things. Every individual contributing to food security, zero hunger, sustainable cities and communities. They all inspire me to do more and never give up.
