Even though we are still in the first quarter of 2021, there have already been major trends. While other things like a face mask, social distancing and spending three hours in traffic jams continue to shape this year, some new trends joined in to make 2021 spicy, funny, enlightening and maybe sad.
There have been many but these few have made their rounds on social media, bringing laughter and some sense of belonging to some people. Let’s check them out;

It all started with an evangelist called Gbadamosi Ismail who on his usual ‘morning cry’, preaching on the streets of Ibadan, was filmed singing his Lori Iro(Based on Lies) song. He told Punch after the video went viral that he had been singing that song for 6 years. His message was based on fake love ‘You are my chewing gum, you are my Tomato, you are my biscuit, those are fake loves, lips of deceit’ he said. The video trended during the valentine season as many were advised not to fall for the traps of lying tongue. They were mostly comic and entertaining.
2. Valentine Day Challenge
Maybe the coronavirus had something to do with it, maybe it was something else, but Nigerians seemed to embrace the valentine celebrations this year, with much gifts, outings and fun. Social media was lit with all the romantic tactics.

Our very own Ngozi Okonjo-Nweala, former minister of finance, was appointed the new Chief of the World Trade Organization. In 2014, Time magazine named her as one of the 100 most influential people in the world. She has been a person of interest in the country and far beyond making waves in the finance world. It is only normal that she would trend with many young ladies dressing like her and doing the #BeLikeNgoziChallenge.
