1. Have a roommate
A dorm with a couple of roommates is not a bad idea, as you get to encounter different people with different characteristics, first hand. Even if you don’t like a crowded school dorm, you can try it out for a session or get an off-campus hostel with one roommate. Just have the experience.
2. Take an elective course
It is cool that you entered the university knowing which course you want to study. But as the years go by, our interest changes and we begin to see what we are better at. Taking elective courses from other departments can help broaden your horizons. You can be an accounting student but try an elective course from mass communication, say, writing and directing. Who knows how interesting you might find it.
3. Connect with some prominent lecturers
Okay, come on, not every lecturer is interested in your money or the colour of your undies. There are legit lecturers and professors, in whom friendship with them can lead to long-lasting and successful ventures and partnerships. They can also serve as mentors, introducing and channelling you towards the right track.
4. Join a club
College is mostly about exploring your options. So, before graduating, don’t hold back. Try out different clubs, sports, school politics, music, dance, ethnic groups, welfare and so on. The campus is loaded with many clubs to choose from.
5. Start planning long term goals
Your schooling shouldn’t be about making good grades only. While you’re in there, before graduating, you need to start strategizing on what piques your interest. Now that you have joined a club, spoken to a professor, taken elective courses, you probably have an idea of what you are interested in. So, making plans on what goals you need to achieve once you get out of school. What is the way forward?

6. Save and invest
For those who have mummy and daddy paying their way through college, don’t forget to make the best out of it. Start saving and investing your money. Do not wait until you’re a graduate or have to pay your bills before you learn to manage your finance.
7. Travel somewhere new
There is nothing like a broader perspective. It helps you see things from a much broader point of view. Travelling can increase your wisdom and teach you how things work in different places. It can help you understand the market. One of your holidays, instead of going home, travel to a friend’s town. Or you can join field trips.
8. Volunteer
This is something to consider before graduating. Volunteering services help you build a solid portfolio and shows that you are in tune with your environment and its people. It also develops you and enables you to acquire skills in different fields.
9. Take part in competitions
Do not just sit on the sidelines. Be a part of it all. Run for Miss/Mr Campus, Student Union President, Scholarships, Internships, Cash prize and so on. You don’t know you can do it until you try. 10. Live
