Lots of businesses and public meets have been shut down until the government can have full control over the pandemic situation. We’ve all been asked to self-isolate, stay in-doors to stop the spread of the coronavirus.
Let’s face it! It can be very boring being holed-up for a day, let alone two weeks! So, how do you utilize this stay without boredom taking its toll on you? See a few suggestions;
1. Learn a new skill online
There are so many skills to pick on, aren’t there? You can learn to code or dredge up a better resume so that you nail that dream job. And what about that brilliant podcast idea you have? The only problem being you’ve never used one and no clue as to how to go about it. If you are looking to expand your skills for monetary purposes or self-development, now will be the perfect time to choose a profession that works for you online.
2. Work out and practice yoga
Studies have shown in the long run that exercises can alleviate anxiety and depression. So, do some Yoga, meditate and do more soul searching or run on a treadmill. If you don’t have one, do other exercises that don’t require a gym or the streets. You can jog in your compound or do spot-on exercises. Do not forget to rest and have some sleep while you are at it.
3. Play Catch-up
Remember all those books you started reading but never finished? Now is the time to read them. They might be for fun, learn something new or improve your vocabulary. Catch up with movies and TV series, too. This will help you unwind and take your mind off the anxiety of what is going on out there.

How is your relationship with people outside your family and comfort zone? Have you gotten rid of the stage fright? Improving on your interpersonal skills entails controlling your emotions, practising empathy, being assertive, showing genuine interest in co-workers, maintaining a good relationship between staff, boss, potential business partners and the likes. They all form an integral part of your professional toolbox. Develop them with online guidelines and ebooks, practice with family members or use your mirror.
5. Create an action plan
Strategize and create an action plan with a timeline for your personal and professional life. This is not one where you procrastinate. Know when it begins and set a timeline for when it should end. Also, finish that online course you started ages ago.
6. Improve your cooking
Did you know that cooking can reduce stress? “Cooking is a great destresser because it serves as a creative outlet,” says Debbie Mandel, author of Addicted to Stress. Other psychologists have corroborated this theory because of the way cooking can get creative, distracting one from unpleasantries and anxieties for the time being. So, why not learn a new recipe while you are stuck at home?
