Putting a lot of effort into your appearance might feel unnecessary since you’re at home but it’s important to remember that an interview is a professional exercise, no matter where it takes place. Do some research on the company culture and dress in accordance with it. Also, wearing a shirt and tie over a pair of boxers might not be a good idea. Why? You never know when you might need to get up and do something.

Set Your Tech Up and Do A Test-Run

You need to ensure that everything runs smoothly and without mishaps. While technology generally makes things easier, it is prone to malfunctions, so you should be proactive. Download the software ahead of time and acquaint yourself with its functions, so you don’t get confused during the interview. Ensure your laptop is in good working order; set up your internet and do a test-run to ensure it works properly. Also, test your webcam and sound to ensure they both work fine and charge your devices to ensure they stay powered.

Prior to the interview, you can have a dry run with a friend or family member by setting up the video interview and doing a mock interview. Your friend/ family member can give you some feedback on the lighting, sound and camera quality and more, so you can make adjustments and prepare better for the actual interview.

Remove Distractions

To avoid getting distracted and distracting your interviewers, you should eliminate interruptions and intrusions. Shut out background noises, close the door to ensure no one (e.g your loud younger sibling) comes in, put your phone on silent and ensure you are completely alone during the interview.
