You Have A Room To Yourself? How To Decorate It For Comfort

First of all, congratulations. We understand how it can sometimes be tough to get a room to yourself, especially when you have siblings of same-sex or roommates. Do not mind those rolling their eyes as to why you’re making a big fuss about having an entire room to yourself.

Now, you can decorate your room as you deem fit, making it your place of sanctuary, comfort and relaxation, reflecting your true self and showing to wh how you want to be seen. So, what do you consider while trying to beautify your room? Let’s go over the basics;

1. Choose an agreeable colour

room colour

If you are tired of the usual lovely white, cream or blue, you can try other subtle, yet cool colours like leaf green, lavender, mauve or different shades of blue. The colour should be relaxing and soothing.

2. Use only what you need

space

The joy of having your room can easily mislead one into thinking they are allowed to add whatever they want. The only thing that will ensure is a cluster of unwanted items and disorganization, which defeats the entire purpose of relaxation. So, don’t choke up the room. Create one with enough space to move around.

3. Have your spot

spot

It’s only making a room in your room. It will be for quiet times, meditating, reading, writing or any other activity that requires your concentration. You don’t have to have two rooms, though. Add your bean bag, cushion or table and chair to one side of the room, preferably near the window, so you can also enjoy the view. That will be your thinking spot.

Lights

Don’t you think it will be cool to switch your lighting from the usual colour to red, blue or green, depending on your mood? It would add flair to your walls and ceiling. Also, have a reading and natural light. We do not want your room turning into a disco yard, now, do we?

5. Don’t forget your ceiling

ceiling colour

Your ceiling is like your fifth wall. Remember, you would have to stare at it. We do not want to stare at something bland and uninspiring. So, use a colour a shade lighter than the ones you used for your wall.

6. Make no cluster

scattered

Install drawers, wardrobes and cupboards. This is so that your belongings are not just lying about the room. Have a rack for your shoes, hang your bags or have a wardrobe space for them. Your makeup and toiletries should have a cupboard and not just sit on the table. This way, your room will be neat and spacious.

7. Your furniture is crucial too

chairs

Don’t pick a bed or chair that takes up almost the entire space of your room. Make sure it fits, and the colour compensates the walls.

8. You can now add your sound

Music

Remember, it’s a sanctuary. Your get-away room, where you have your ‘Me time’. So, do not leave out the home theatre, flat-screen TV or even a mini studio and have fun!
