Success is not tied to doing what everyone else is doing. There are challenging championships out there that we struggle or wish we could be a part of while there are others who have left the familiar sports to try something different.
Can we call these bizarre competitions ‘thinking outside the box’ and daring to be different? Let’s find out!
1. The World Beard and Moustache Championships
Beard gang! Where are they o? Come and see your spec.?Oh, yes, this competition is a thing. Instead of just posting Instagram pictures and forming fine boy, you can make something of it by participating in the ‘freestyling’ biennial competition.
2. Nettle-eating Championships
In Dorset, England, a race is held each year to eat the most stinging nettles. There, Trans World Sport chatted to the winners and promoters of this strange eating competition. Ewww, stinging nettles. Maybe this would teach perseverance in business? Yeesh.
3. World Wife-Carrying Championship
Wife carrying is a contest in which male competitors race while each is carrying a female teammate. The objective is for the male to carry the female through a particular obstacle track in the fastest time. Wife carrying contests have taken place in Australia, the United States, Hong Kong, India, Germany, the UK and other parts of the world besides Finland and nearby Sweden, Estonia and Latvia. It also has a spot in the Guinness Book Of Records. Note to the brothers: If you ever compete in this sport, be more significant than your wife or face the music.?

4. Rock Paper Scissors World Championship
Um, they do know it’s ‘Rock Paper Scissor’. Did you ever play it as a kid? Well, adults are competing worldwide for it. They play dress-up and come in multitudes for this. Who would have thought?
5. Curling
Okay, this one will sweep you away. Curling is a sport where players slide stones on an ice sheet toward a target area divided into four compact circles. This involves balls, boules, and shuffleboard. It is very much an Olympic game now. What is your excuse, again?
6. Extreme Ironing Championship
Yep! It’s a thing. Take your ironing board with you and combine it with other sports activities like scuba diving, rock climbing, etc. and do your ironing on the spot. One question, though…Are these people alright? Oh, well, we do need the risk-takers.
7. Cheese Rolling
Haha! Question 1: Why are these people stumbling down the hill? To think that people from all over the world are allowed to take part. A 7–9 pound round of Double Gloucester cheese is sent from the top of the hill rolling down the hill, and competitors then sprint down the hill after it. The first person over the finish line at the bottom of the hill wins the cheese.
