It’s the holiday season, aka ‘go and visit your family’ season aka travelling season. Whether you’ll be away for a few days or weeks, it’s essential to pack for your trip in an efficient manner that ensures that your luggage looks tidy and you don’t leave anything out.
Need some help? We’re here for you with some tips and hacks. Check them out:
1. Roll (Not Fold) Your Clothes
The conventional way to pack clothes is to fold and stack them. However, to ensure you manage space and avoid creases, it’s advisable to roll them instead. For your tops, you should lay them facedown, fold the sleeves in and roll from the bottom up. For pants, put both legs together and roll from the waist down.
2. Take a Travel Iron
Taking a mini iron along with you is a great travel packing hack. It helps to smoothen out any wrinkles or creases on your clothes. You can’t be too sure that there’ll be an electric iron at your destination, so it’s advisable to take one along.

3. Put The First Outfit You Want To Wear On Top
The first outfit you intend wearing at your destination should be the first thing you see when you open your bag on arrival. This helps to avoid rummaging into the bag to find the outfit and scattering your other items in the process.
4. Pack According to Your Outfit
This is a great way to ensure you don’t bring more clothes than you need or worse- leave some clothes at home. Visualize the outfits you intend to wear on each day of your trip and pack your clothes accordingly.
5. Make Use of Packing Cubes
Packing cubes are a great way to arrange your items. They are lightweight and durable, helping to compartmentalize your clothes and other things.
6. Put All Your Liquids In A Separate Bag
The last thing you want is to open your bag and realize that your clothes have been stained by lotion, shampoo, moisturizer or other liquids. Put all your liquids in a clear bag and tuck them in the corner of your suitcase.
7. Make Use of Transparent/ Vacuum Bags
Vacuum bags like Ziploc come in handy when you need to pack items like toiletries, chargers, cables, jewellery and other things you’d prefer to separate.
Your dresses, tuxedos, suits and other heavy outfits should be hung with a coat hanger in a suit bag. This helps to ensure that you do not need to fold/ roll the clothes, putting them at risk of being wrinkled.
9. Be Careful With Breakables
Breakables like perfumes, glass, porcelain and more should be handled and packed with care. You can wrap them in clothes, bubble wrap or socks to ensure that they do not break while you ‘re hauling them from place to place.
10. Take Hand Luggage Along
Extra items and clothes should be kept in your hand luggage. This helps to ensure that you have a portable/ easy carry-on. It’s also a great way to keep your valuables and precious items as well as relevant documents, to avoid having to dig into your neatly packed luggage to find them.
11. Take Two Tops For Every Pair of Pants
You’ll most likely wear your bottoms (pants or skirts) more than once, so you should take at least two tops for each, instead of taking so many bottoms and consuming so much space.
12. Include An Extra Bag For Dirty Laundry
The last thing you want to do is to mix your dirty laundry with your clean clothes. You should take a separate foldable bag to store your dirty laundry at the end of each day.
13. Take A Compartmentalized Suitcase
Choose a suitcase that has multiple compartments to store different items. This ensures that you have spaces for numerous items without mixing them up.
Have a safe trip!
