Top 5 things to avoid when on social media

In this digital age, many people have at least one social media page. While some use it to catch fun, others sell/promote businesses with it. Regardless of what you use social media for, be sure to avoid the following:

1. Having a bot account

This type of account is an automated one that can send multiple tweets/messages at the same time. Replies are usually automated and it tries to mimic human interactive behaviours. You have to be careful with this kind of account, as improper usage can violate user privacy and circumvent API rate limits.

2. Sending nudes

It may be the new norm, however, it’s NOT a good idea to send nudes on social media. Your accounts could be hacked and sensitive information – such as your nude pictures or videos – leaked. Do not give in to the temptation. Your reputation and future are at risk.

3. Spreading/reposting unverified content

The spread of misinformation and fake news has been on the rise across various social media platforms in the last couple of years. This has caused a lot of havoc. Do not be quick to share stories, especially if they are from unknown or unverified sources. Plus, sharing unverified content could lead to your handle getting blocked. Be careful!

4. Sharing too much

Yes, there is such a thing as sharing too much on social media. Not every information about you must be out there. So, keep personal matters personal.

5. Being disrespectful

Having a virtual conversation does not excuse use of disrespectful or rude language. You never can tell with whom you are engaging or how the conversation can affect you in future. Endeavour to always maintain a courteous tone.
