Presentations skills come naturally for some people, while others have to learn over time
Got a speech or presentation coming up? We have some tips on how to make your session really interesting and keep your audience engaged…
- Prepare before the presentation: You need to have all your materials ready and do speech rehearsals in front of a mirror and a mini audience at home (even if that audience is your dog or cat :D). This helps you polish your delivery and boosts your confidence, too.
- Eye contact: Making eye contact during a presentation is very key – practically as important as the content of the presentation itself. You need to look at your audience with confidence and grace, even if you’re all squirmy on the inside.
- Start your presentation with a banger: Start your presentation with something interesting to make your audience drawn to what you’re saying. Once you hook ‘em with your early statement or action, it’s easier to reel them in throughout your presentation
- Make your presentation engaging: Make your audience a part of your presentation ask questions, tell short stories that are relevant to the presentation and generally engage them, as this keeps them interested in what you are saying.
- Get evaluation from a trusted colleague: After your presentation, get evaluation/feedback from a trusted colleague or friend. This would help you know how to build on your strengths and work on any flaws.
