How to boost your catering business

The yummy business of catering can be interesting because it is one that can be started with little or no capital but it can at the same time challenging. So whether you’re about to venture into the trade or you’re seeking ways to raise more awareness for your business, it is only right that you enhance the profit potential of your catering business with these tips.

Leverage on events (no matter how little) There are a vast amount of events that you can leverage on and it doesn’t have to be large scale. Look around you, a neighbour might want to throw a little get-together or a few friends want to hang out for a mini-reunion. Keep your ears open and be observant.

Use social media. Your social media accounts are your springboard for all your online marketing activities. Keep them consistently updated with fresh and relevant content. Share clean pictures of all your meals and events. Tip: For pictures with good quality, invest in a little digital camera.

Keep a blog. Blog about your food and all that you do. Dish out relevant tips and tricks, hacks, recipes, events you catered for, the food industry, etc. Blogging increases your chances of being a local authority.

Word of mouth works. The oldest means of spreading gossip is to tell a friend to tell a friend so leverage on that.

Brand yourself. It could be the way your meals are made or the manner in which it is packaged, always have a unique selling point that differentiates you from other caterers. People may forget faces or names but they will never forget where good or unique food came from and that is a way to get into their hearts.

Don’t leave out the locals. It is important that you touch base with the locals. Visit the local event planner, wine shop, wedding planner, etc.  Give out a taste of what you offer to the potential local in exchange for publicity. The key is to get your food into the bellies of many potential customers and your business name etched in their memories.

Network with the incumbent. Look at it this way, other caterers are not your competition, you’re simply partners in the same business. They may be swamped at some point and you may be the one to relive them off the stress. Who knows, yours might become the most preferred!
