Nollywood is getting a lot of things right, from storylines, to acting to cinematography and the rest. They’re doing so good that the World’s most prestigious international film festival; Toronto International Film Festival, has dedicated its annual City-to-City spotlight to Lagos this year. This will have several Nigerian film makers compete in the festival with their feature length films. Go Nollywood!
We digress; here are the hottest Nollywood movies to watch this summer:
The CEO: The CEO is an exciting mystery-thriller movie that tells the story of five top executives across Africa who compete in a 1-week leadership retreat organized by a multinational telecommunication firm to determine which of the execs qualifies to sit at the helm. Things heat up when 3 of the execs die mysteriously and last two are the prime suspects. This movie features actors Wale Ojo, Lala Akindoju, Angelique Kidjo, Aurelie Eliam, Hilda Dokubo, Jimmy Jean Louis, Peter King, Nico Panagio among others.
The Arbitration: The Arbitration hits the nail on the head of one of society’s most prevalent vice; RAPE. It tells the story of an office affair gone awry when an employee sues her former boss for rape; an arbitration panel was set up to find out the truth. UC Ukeje and the stunning Adesua Etomi are the major characters in the movie.
When Love Happens: This romantic comedy tells the tale of a 28 year old wedding planner who is yet to find her own love. It explores the pressure young adults face to find love and all the things that could happen when looking for love in Lagos. It stars Weruche Opia, OC Ukeje, Beverly Naya, Oreka Godis, Gideon Okeke and others.
Couple of Days: This movie reminds us of Tyler Perry’s “ Why did I get married”. Three Couples went on a weekend getaway in a friend’s home but their fun break is ruined when gossip lead the couples to share more personal secrets than anyone is willing to reveal and makes them all question their love for each other.
The Wedding Party: this movie is coming out later in the year but we’re so excited about it. It is Kemi Adetiba’s full-length debut and you know she’s good. The movie is about all the craziness and sweetness of a typical Nigerian society wedding. It is star studded, features our man crush everyday Banky W as the husband to be and Adesua Etomi as the bride-to-be. Other actors in the movie include Alibaba, Sola Sobowale, Ireti Doyle and Richard Mofe-Damijo play Dozie’s, Zainab Balogun, AY, Ikechukwu, Frank Donga, Beverly Naya, Emma OhMaGod, Lepacious Bose and others.
