6 Things You Should Know About Rachel Oniga

It’s no longer news that one of our favourite TV stars Rachel Oniga, majorly known for her movies in both English and Yoruba language has passed on. She died on the 30th of July, 2021.

There had been a rumour that her death was caused by Covid-19, causing folks to panic. But her sister later came on social media and said Rachel had died from a heart-related disease that she had been battling for quite some time.

Her long time friend and fellow veteran actress, Patience Ozokwo, took to her Instagram page to bid her friend farewell. She said Rachel’s last words to her were not to forget her.

To pay our tribute to her, we collated seven random things we believe you should about her to always have her in our heart as one of Nigerian’s veteran actresses.

1. Rachel Tabuno Oniga was born on 23rd May 1957 in Ebute Metta, Lagos State.

She died at 64.

2. She hails from Eku, Delta State.

That will explain her ability to speak Urhobo in movies. She is also fluent in Yoruba.

3. Her first movie was ‘Onome’.

Before her first film, she worked briefly for Ascoline Nigeria Limited, a Dutch consulting firm.

4. She started acting in 1993.

Her acting career started soon after her divorce.

5. In 1997, she made her Yoruba film debut with Owo Blow.

6. She has three children and one grandchild.
