How to make the most of your internship.

Internships count as work experience because you do “experience” the practical side of what
you’ve been taught in school, in a real-life work setting. Some folks think you don’t need to work
as efficiently as the staff of the organisation – I mean, you are not getting paid, right? Wrong!

When you make the most of your internship, it’s bound to open many doors of opportunities for
you. Here are a few steps to help you do just that:

1. Make a good impression sounds simple enough and it’s very important. Making a
good impression involves being punctual, doing your work diligently, dressing well and
appropriately for work and following company policies.

2. Always ask questions: Ask the right questions, questions that would help you learn and
understand what the job entails. This lets your senior colleagues know that you’re
interested and just might open the doors for a job when you’re done with school.

3. Keep busy Ask to take on more tasks if you’re less busy, don’t just hang around doing
nothing. Try your hands at challenging stuff or learn something new online.

4. Build professional relationships Make yourself likable and build connections with
your bosses, colleagues and other people you come across while interning. Many
opportunities come from networking relationships that have been built over time.

5. Do your tasks excellently Don’t do tasks shabbily, make extra efforts to do your work
well, even though you’re still learning.
