You must now have at least credit in Yoruba if you want to school in higher institutions in Lagos state.

Planning to study in any state owned/controlled higher institution in Lagos state?

Then you need to brush up on your Yoruba knowledge as It has now been made compulsory by the Lagos State government for students to have at least a credit score in Yoruba language to stand a chance to be offered admission in any of the institutions.

Remember that students are expected to have at least credits in 5 subjects relevant to their courses including Maths and English to qualify for admission into higher institutions in the country.

 Lagos state governor, Akinwunmi Ambode signed the Yoruba Language Preservation Bill was signed into law passed on the 8th of February 2018 to “to provide for the preservation and promotion of the use of Yoruba Language and for connected purposes,” 

 The law also recognises the need to make teaching Yoruba language in primary and secondary schools compulsory so that students taking leaving school exams have a good knowledge of it.  Thereby, Yoruba Language should be taught as part of the General Studies courses in all schools in Lagos state.
