The end of the year is filled with many events, festivals, parties and turn ups, coincidentally, some evil people take advantage of the period to carry out nefarious activities.
If you have plans to attend events that will be crowded or go on late into the night, it is important to have/know/take some safety precautions. Here are some below.
- Inform someone of your movements and keep them updated if any change of plans occur: Make sure that there’s someone that knows where you are, where you’re going to and when you’re on your way back home or where you’ll spend the rest of the night, if the party is moving to another venue or you left one party to attend another one, keep the person(s) updated.
- Be alert and take note of your surroundings: Be aware of where you are at all times and note landmarks
- Go in groups: Turning up with friends and family members not only guarantees a fun time, it also ensures that you have people watching out for you incase anything goes wrong.
- Do not leave your drinks unattended or accept drinks from strangers.
- Know your limit: Don’t take too much drinks that will leave you drunk or unconscious, avoid drugs as well. Do not be pressured into taking more than your body can handle, remember you need to get home and be strong for the new year.
- Make plans on how to get home or where you’ll stay when the turn up ends.
- Ensure you have back up plans: Always have plans and money for emergency situations.
- Do not drive when/if you’re drunk: If there is no one else to drive you home, take a cab or uber.
- Always have your ID card and necessary particulars on you: Law enforcement work tirelessly to ensure that the people committing crimes are arrested and taken off the streets, sometimes they come to raid events because they know these people are there looking for their next victims so it is important to have means of identification on you so you don’t get into any trouble.
