The summertime is an important time in Hollywood…heck, it’s the origin of the term ‘summer blockbuster’ because studios like to time release of big projects to fall in this window in order to take in the maximum box office earnings. 2016 is not different as it has some pretty huge titles lined up for summer and the following are a must watch/see for movie lovers.
- Suicide squad (August 5)
After BVS and Civil War, this movie is one of the most anticipated movie by comic and cartoon lovers this year. It is from DC stables so you know it’s going to be dope. It is about a group of dangerous super villains who had no choice but to accept a secret government mission that will likely result in their deaths. It features actors like Viola Davis, Will Smith, Jared Leto and Margot Robbie.
- Star Trek Beyond (July 22)
The thirteenth film in this legendary franchise promises to be exciting with Simon Pegg co-writing and acting in it. The plot is generally the same, stranded on an unknown hostile planet, Capt. Kirk (Chris Pine), Spock (Zachary Quinto) and the rest of the Enterprise crew face an alien threat; an enemy led by Krall (Idris Elba).
- Ghostbusters (July 15)
This fantasy/ science fiction movie promises to be a fun ride because it has one of the funniest actresses; Mellisa McCarthy in it. It tells how 4 women; A paranormal researcher, a physicist, a nuclear engineer and a subway worker endeavour to rid New York of ghosts that can possess humans.
- Jason Bourne (July 29)
Coming up as a sequel to two fire action movies (The Bourne Supremacy and The Bourne Ultimatum), Jason bourne is action packed and i am sure Matt Damon is as good as ever. The movie tells of Bourne resurfacing after seven years to take on a new enemy. Expect hard paced actions and breathe snatching scenes in this one.
- Pete’s Dragon (August 12)
Disney decided to remake its 1977 classic and they have done a wonderful of from all I’ve been reading about the movie. It is about Pete; a little orphan boy who lives in the forest with his dragon which the people of the town believed to be a folklore until he became friends with Grace;a little girl from the village and convinced her and the people that his dragon was real. This movie will give kids and adults alike a swell time.
- Ice Age (July 22)
As the instigator of all the chaos in the previous Ice age movies; Scrat’s epic pursuit of his evasive acorn lands him into the universe where he accidentally started a series of cosmic events that transform and threaten the Ice Age World. Sid, Manny, Diego, and the rest of the herd must leave their home and embark on a journey to another new lands to survive the impending catastrophe. The movie is guaranteed comic relief and its adventure filled.
